Florida Local Governments Cannot Ban Dogs by Breed
Florida Statute 767.14 prohibits local governments from adopting breed, weight, or size restrictions, so Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds are not breed-restricted anywhere in Florida. HOAs, landlords, military housing, and insurers can set their own terms.
Statute 767.04 and an Owner’s Bite Liability
Under Florida Statute 767.04, an owner is liable when their dog bites a person in a public place or lawfully on private property, regardless of the dog’s history. Rabies Vaccination and the City of Jacksonville Pet License
